In four years Mike has finished 4th, 1st,1st,1st. Zak Adomanis had another
strong year finishing 4th in state.
Zak won the regional title after finishing 2nd a year ago and also won his 2nd
county title. Zak finished the
year 33-2. After finishing 2nd as a freshman, Chris Willig came back to
win the county title. Congrats to senior Bobby
Schuler who, in two years of wrestling, finished 2nd and 3rd in the county
tournaments.
3/6/04 - Congratulations to Mike McFadden who finished third in the state this year. Mike has back-to-back third place finishes in the state. Mike has had a very successful high school career with a total of 111 career wins. Mike had a tough loss to Kyle Richards from Paint Branch in the semifinals, but with falls in the consolation semifinals and consolation finals to get third place. It was a great effort for Mike, but Mike has always been tough on the mat. Also, congratulations to Zak Adomanis on a 4th place finish as a junior. Zak came back from a tough semifinal loss to pin Shawn Englert from Calvert in the consolation semifinals. Zak lost a very thrilling overtime match for third place, but being only a junior this will provide motivation to strive for a higher placement next year. Chris Willig had a win over Wes McBride in the opening round of the tournament. However, he bumped into the 2nd and 3rd place finishers in the next two rounds. Chris put in a great effort, and, since he is only a sophomore, should two more years of wrestling for a state placing.
2/28/04 - Mike McFadden has been known for the spectacular finishes in some of his toughest matches. Mike won in double overtime for the county championship his sophomore season. He won the county championship with a reversal in the last five seconds as junior. He was quoted as telling the coach he looked up at the clock with twenty seconds left and thought it was time to do something. In the regional finals that year, he just missed a reversal in the last ten seconds. This year's regional final continued the tough important matches. Going against a very strong Randy Oates, Mike fell behind early only to once again come from behind in the 3rd period to pull off a win for the regional title. Mike was quoted this time as saying he wanted to make it close. Randy and Mike both put in great efforts and it was a great match for the crowd. Zak Adomanis went into the regional as the top seed and answered the challenge with three falls on the way to the championship. Zak pinned Rafael Jones of Northwestern in 1:28, Nick Dyson of Chopticon in 1:43, and defeated a very tough Shawn Englert from Calvert in 2:52. Zak and Mike both remain undefeated heading into the state tournament. Chris Willig also qualified for his second straight state tournament by finishing in 3rd place. Chris has started off his high school by being a state qualifier as both a freshman and sophomore. Charles McIntosh also started of his high school career by qualifying for the regional tournament as a freshman.
2/21/04 - Bowie went into the tournament with high expectations. While not quite the finish they had hoped for, Bowie finished in fourth with some great individual showings. Mike McFadden had a tremendous close to his county tournament career. Mike has finished 4th, 1st, 1st, 1st in his four years of the PG County Tournament. Mike went smoothly through the competition with a first period pin of Adrian Moten from Gwynn Park, held a strong Jerome Owens scoreless while winning 9-0 in the semis, and then held off a strong and athletic Freddie Lewis from Oxon Hill 11-2 in the finals. The victories ensured Mike won the Murphy Award. The Murphy Award is given to the person who earns the most points for his team at the PG County Tournament during his high school career. Mike was the first Bowie wrestler to win the award since Todd Smith won it in 1994. Congratulations to Mike on a great career. Junior Zak Adomanis won his second consecutive PG County Title with three consecutive pins. He pinned Abby George from Roosevelt in 2:24, Paul Queen from Flowers in 3:04, and won the championship by pinning a tough 2nd seed in Deshawn Carr from Gwynn Park. Sophomore Chris Willig also had a strong tournament pinning Larry Moomau from Northwestern in 2:40, handling Christian Alvarez 17-2 in the semis, and holding Tommy Paul from Northwestern scoreless in a 11-0 championship victory. This was Chris's first championship after finishing 2nd as a freshman last year. The "Big Three" answered the call and responded as expected with strong tournaments. There were also some very strong performances. Senior Bobby Schuler came back from a tough semifinal loss to finish 3rd by scoring a pin in 4:51 while trailing Julio Mata. Bobby did not start wrestling until his junior year, but should be proud of his 2nd and 3rd place finished at his two county tournaments. Freshman Charles McIntosh stepped it up at the end of the year and that culminated in a 4th place finish in his first county tournament. Charles lost in the quarterfinal round, but came back with two falls in the consolation rounds that helped him get into the consolation final match. Charles also qualified for the regional tournament. Devon Watson, a junior, was late coming out for the team and won a consolation match with a fall over Chadd Fogg of Bladensburg. Devon was injured and unable to compete the second, but should tremendous athleticism and potential. If he is able to spend an entire season in the practice room, there could be great opportunities for him next year. Sophomore Paul Santone has had the unfortunate circumstances of weighing approximately the same as Mike McFadden. Paul has had to wrestle up a weight class at 189 pounds his freshman and sophomore seasons. Paul answered the call this year despite a large weight difference. Paul finished in 5th place with a tough 5-4 win in his last match of the tournament. Paul will have the opportunity to wrestle at his natural weight next year, and will hopefully build on the successes of his first two seasons. Dennis Stout had a consolation fall over Paul Brown of Oxon Hill in 3:06. Dennis is a junior and, with some work next year, has a chance to place at the county tournament. Sophomores Joe Engbert and David Robertson both had great efforts and will be looking forward to solid junior seasons.
1/24/04 - HARD WORK PAYS OFF - Zak Adomanis (215) has been working hard since
his loss last season at states. He has lost a total of over 60 pounds through proper diet and
exercise over the last year. The hard work paid off this weekend as Zak
defeated #2 ranked Ken Jefferson from DeMatha 9-4 in the semi's, and then
defeated top-ranked Tyler Moyer of Broadneck in the finals. Mike McFadden
(171) also
continued his undefeated season with a win by fall in the finals for his third
tournament title of the season. Chris Willig (103) lost a tough 2-0 match in the
semi's, but wrestled back strong to finish in 3rd place.
1/17/04 - Mike McFadden and Zak Adomanis won tournament titles at the Delmarva
Classic in Salisbury this weekend. Both wrestlers defeated rank wrestlers
from Delaware. Zak won his finals match with a pin of Sean Englert of
Calvert, who placed 4th in the state last season. Chris Willig wrestled a
strong tournament, placing second to highly ranked Delaware wrestler Connor
McDonald. Bobby Schuler was upset early, but wrestled back strong in the
consolations to place 5th.
12/17/03 - MAJOR LOSS MEANS MAJOR WIN - In the first big test of the year, Bowie pulled
out a one point win over Oxon Hill. Bowie started of quick with a pin by Chris
Willig at 112, a 24-5 tech fall by freshman Charles McIntosh in his first varsity match,
and forfeits at 125 and 130 for Michael Hicks and Bobby Schuler respectively. First
year wrestler Joe Engbert continued his success from the Bowie tournament by gaining a
first period pin to put Bowie up 29-0. Oxon Hill hit the strength of their lineup
and cut the lead to 29-24. Mike McFadden continued his early season success with a
second period pin to push Bowie to a 35-24 lead. Bowie was expecting a pin from
undefeated Zak Adomanis at 215, and knew they had tough matchups at 275 and 103. If
189 Paul Santone was able to avoid a pin, Bowie would secure the win. Paul fought
off his back and fell by major decision to Ray Saunders. With the Adomanis pin at
215, and Oxon Hill pins at 275 and 103, Bowie hung on for the one point win. Keys
were freshman Charles McIntosh getting a tech fall in his first match, Joe Engbert gaining
his first dual meet win with a first period pin, and Paul Santone fighting hard to not
give up the six points.
12/8/03 Bowie Tournament 2003
Zak Adomanis (215), Mike McFadden (171), and Chris Willig (103) started the season
off great by winning their respective weight classes at the season opening 9th Bulldog
Invitational. Paul Santone also wrestled a good tournament to place sixth.
Bowie tied for sixth place in the team scores with Westlake. While not what the
Bulldogs had hoped for, it was a nice start with multiple wrestlers missing. First
year wrestler Joe Engbert helped the team with two falls in the 140 pound weight
class.
Eastern Nationals Spring 2003
Zak Adomanis placed fourth and Mike McFadden 8th in the Eastern Nationals at Penn State.
They were able to wrestle at this tournament by placing in the two qualifying
tournament, the second being the regional tournament at the Salisbury Civic Center.

3rd place in the Maryland State 3a/4a Tournament. Mike wrestled very well all season
and did not let down during the final event of the year. Zak Adomanis and Chris
Willig did not have the result they were hoping for, but wrestled very well in the
matches. All three will be back for another attempt in the 2003-2004 season.
Regions 2003
Junior Mike McFadden finished 2nd at 171, Zak Adomanis finished 2nd at 275, and Chris

match to cap off a fine end of the season.
